  • Important records – these are essential but rarely accessed, making them prime candidates for being left behind. Medical, academic, and financial records can be easy to forget, but losing them can be an enormous hassle.
  • Family heirlooms – particularly things such as jewelry and decorations, which many people keep hidden in their houses and therefore may not remember when it comes time to move.
  • Phone numbers – many people keep important phone numbers in a drawer or shelf. Remember to bring them with you if you don’t want to lose them.
  • Items left with neighbors – often, people loan their neighbors useful tools or items. Remember to ask for them back before you leave.
  • Garage door opener – while this isn’t something you’ll need for your new home, always remember to take the garage door opener out of your car and leave it for your home’s new residents.

By keeping these things in mind, you can cut down on your risk of leaving something important behind.
