If you owe money to the IRS, it is very important that you resolve your tax liability as quickly as possible. Failure to do that might result in bank levies, wage garnishment and seizure of your assets by the IRS. You need to be proactive in order to prevent enforced collection activity and have your tax debt settled.

The best place to start is from filing your missing tax returns. The IRS will not discuss your possible payment options (unless you can full pay your balance), if any of your returns are not filed or processed. In some cases, however, the IRS might file these returns for you. This does not benefit you, because Substitute for the Return prepared by the IRS does not include your exemptions and/or deductions, which means you end up with a higher liability.  It is always a good idea to file your own return.

After all returns are filed, you are in a position to negotiate your payment options with the IRS. It is important to understand these options to be able to choose the one that benefits you. The IRS is not likely to provide you with any advice on how to save money in this situation. If your total tax liability, including penalties and interest, is less than ten thousand dollars, you can probably set up a Streamline Installment Agreement with the IRS, assuming that you can pay off the balance within 60 months. If you cannot afford it, or if your liability is higher, you might need a tax resolution expert to discuss the best option with you and to guide you through this process.

There are some ways to resolve your tax debt. You can set up a Payment Plan, Partial Payment Plan, submit an Offer in Compromise, or request to place your case on Status 53, Currently Non Collectible. Which way you take depends on your financial situation. In order to determine whether you are eligible for any of these payment options, you should complete the IRS financial statement, form 433A (for individuals) or form 433B (for businesses). These forms, along with all required supporting documents, reflect your ability to pay your tax debt. Therefore, it is essential that these forms are carefully reviewed by you and your tax representative before they are sent to the IRS. It is important that you compare your expenses with the IRS National Allowable Standards for your County of Residence, which can be found at www.irs.gov

While reviewing your financial statements, the IRS will look into equity in your business and personal assets, your monthly disposable income, and the money owed to you, such as your business Accounts Receivable. If you have equity in your house or any investments, you might be asked to use it to make a down payment towards your tax debt. After that the IRS will calculate your payment plan amount based on your disposable monthly income.

In some cases you might be eligible for an Offer in Compromise. An Offer in Compromise is a payment agreement between a taxpayer and the IRS, where the IRS accepts a certain amount from a taxpayer and waives the rest of the balance due. This amount is calculated based on equity in assets and disposable monthly income multiplied by a certain number of months. This is probably the most desirable option, but it is also the most difficult agreement to get accepted.

Another way to prevent enforced collections is to place your case on Currently Non Collectible Status (CNC). In order to do that, you need to prove that paying your back taxes to the IRS would create economic hardship to you and/or your business. If CNC Status is accepted, the IRS stops all collection efforts for a period of 12-24 months, or until your income increases.

It is very important to stay current and compliant after your Payment Plan proposal, CNC Status or an Offer in Compromise is accepted. This means all returns have to be filed and full paid in a timely manner. It is also important to make all agreed payments in full and on time. Otherwise your agreement with the IRS will default and enforced collection activity will follow.

Car accidents can cause injuries to any part of your body. Usually, the severity and extent of the injuries will depend on crash type and the force of impact. Major accidents usually cause major injuries, but we often read of crashes in which cars are totaled but drivers and passengers are apparently unharmed.

Minor car accidents often appear to result in little or no injury but, in fact, may actually cause injuries that leave victims with a lifetime of major problems. In either case, certain types of injuries are more commonly cited in personal injury lawsuits and insurance claims.

Brain and Head Injuries

Drivers and passengers in automobile accidents can commonly suffer brain injuries ranging from a mild concussion to a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Most TBIs cause unconsciousness and are diagnosed in an emergency room. However, in the excitement and confusion surrounding a traffic accident, mild concussions may go unnoticed by the victim.

To the victim, or an observer, even brief unconsciousness or a dazed, stunned or confused state is an early indication. Additionally, sensitivity to light or noise, loss of balance, nausea and vomiting at the scene – or even the next day – are symptomatic.

Neck and Back Musculature Injuries – Muscles, Ligaments and Tendons

Neck and back injuries often involve sprains – physical tears – or strains – stretching – of the musculature attached to the spinal cord. These injuries can cause swelling, bruising and tenderness that limit movement and the performance of daily activities. Whiplash is the common name given to this neck trauma caused by the sudden forward or sideways movement of the neck.

Similar damage to the musculature of the middle and lower back can result from sudden twisting. These injuries may be immediately evident or appear after a day or two. In most cases, painkillers are prescribed for immediate relief. Physical therapy, chiropractic treatment and massage are necessary for longer-term improvement.

Neck and Back Nerve Injuries

Damage to the spinal cord can result from disk injuries. Serious neck and back injuries can involve herniated or bulging discs occurring in the neck, middle back or lower back within their respective cervical, thoracic or lumbar vertebrae.

A herniated, or “slipped,” disk is a common car injuries that occurs when the “cushioning” disk between spinal vertebrae moves out of place and impinges on the spinal root nerves extending into the body. Damage to a spinal disc resulting in formation of a protrusion to the side or back of the spinal cord is referred to as a bulging disc. These injuries commonly occur in high-speed crashes.

Pain from disc injuries in the cervical vertebrae can extend to the arm and fingers. However, the most serious injuries often affect the thoracic spine whose spinal roots extend to the ribs and chest region. Besides the peripheral pain from nerve damage, the functioning of internal organs may be affected. Injuries in lumbar or lower back region often result in peripheral pain extending to the legs and feet. A herniated or bulging disc usually requires extensive long-term treatment, including surgery

Other Common Injuries

Shoulder injuries commonly result from side-impact collisions. A tear may occur between the muscles and tendons joining the upper half of the joint or rotator cuff causing a serious, painful and debilitating injury. During front-end collisions, a steering wheel can land with major force on the driver’s legs. Additionally, the dashboard can collapse onto the passenger’s legs resulting in injuries to the knee, hip and thigh.

Peter is a writer that was recently rear-ended by a driver who tried to make false injury claims. Thanks to this car accident lawyer in Elmhurst, Peter got out of the situation.

Gum sculpting, or gum contouring, is a cosmetic dental procedure used to re-shape gums that patients would like to change. Many patients who opt for gum sculpting suffer from a condition called gummy smile, in which the gums cover too much of the front teeth and create an unattractive smile. Other patients have uneven or otherwise misshapen gums that they would like to correct. When performed by skilled dentist, gum sculpting is sure to give patients a smile they will take pride in showing off. Below is more information about gum sculpting.

Gum Sculpting Basics

Gum sculpting is a simple surgery that is commonly performed with a scalpel, but more dentists are now using specially designed lasers instead. The procedure, which involves the trimming of excess gum tissue from the teeth, is fast and usually painless. Lasers make the procedure even faster, and healing is enhanced thanks to lasers’ ability to cauterize blood vessels while they cut. To boost the improvements in appearance made possible with gum sculpting, many patients get crowns or veneers as well.

The Gum Sculpting Procedure

Gum sculpting is usually performed under local anesthesia. After numbing the gums, the dentist begins using the laser or scalpel to remove gum tissue from the face of the front teeth. At the same time, the dentist will reshape the gum tissue that remains. For some patients, basic gum sculpting is insufficient. In these cases, dentists might find it necessary to take out some of the bone at the base of the teeth. This is usually only required when the gums are deemed to be at risk of going back onto the teeth again during recovery. While this might sound more extreme than the basic procedure, it’s actually very easy to accomplish.

What Happens Before Surgery

Before starting to sculpt the gums, dentists normally review the procedure with the patient so that he or she knows what to expect. To ensure that the operation goes smoothly, many dentists mark the new gum line. This gives patients a chance to see where their gums will be after the procedure is finished. Finally, anesthetic is applied before the procedure begins.

Recovery and Potential Risks

To ensure that the gums heal properly, patients should take certain precautions after surgery. A few days of rest is valuable at first. Pain can be relieved with anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. However, aspirin should be avoided due to its ability to increase bleeding. Because the gums are tender during this time, soft foods such as eggs, cottage cheese and ice cream should be used in the days following surgery. Crunchy foods should be saved until after healing is complete. Throughout this time, daily dental hygiene, such as brushing and flossing, should only be done as directed by the dentist.

Patients should be aware that healing may take longer when the procedure is performed with a scalpel rather than a laser. In some cases, too much gum may be removed. This can take additional treatments to correct.

Patients who are dissatisfied with how their gums look should consider gum sculpting. In each case, the cost of treatment depends on how much sculpting must be performed. To get the best results, patients should choose a qualified and reputable cosmetic dentist with specific experience in gum sculpting.

Heat-treated, or thermally modified wood, is an ecologically sound alternative to the more toxic methods used to strengthen wood and make it more decay-resistant. There are three related techniques currently favored for heat treating wood, all developed in Europe. All increase the durability and hardness of the wood by one at least one class, rendering certain common woods a dark exotic color that makes the an excellent substitute for tropical wood such as ipé from the Brazilian rainforest. Like ipé, heat-treated wood is dense and will split when nails are applied unless pre-drilled. Heat-treated lumber is typically used for siding, flooring, cladding, patios, outdoor furniture and children’s playgrounds.

Retification
Retiwood was developed in France at the Mines Saint-Etienne engineering school and patented in the late 1990s. Retification dries wood at 160°C to 180°C and then exposes it to temperatures reaching 240°C in carefully designed ovens devoid of any oxygen so there is no risk of combustion. The company that holds the patent applies it to local species primarily ash, beech, popular and pine. Their products include cladding, floor boards and outdoor terrace boards.

ThermoWood
The technique for ThermoWood was patented by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. It currently has two standard treatment processes, Thermo-D and Thermo-S. The process is based on the use of rapid high temperature (185°-225°C) and steam within a specially designed kiln. The peak temperature is dependent upon the desired end use and kept at a constant for 2-3 hours, then reduced using water spray. Average density is reduced by 10% with modulus of elasticity maintained or slightly improved. ThermoWood is not recommended for use in horizontal load bearing designs.

Platowood
Platowood uses a multiple-stage treatment designed based on the research of H. Ruyter in the Koninklijke Shell Laboratorium in Amsterdam with commercial production since 2001. Both softwood and hardwood species are utilized, notably Norway spruce, Douglas fir, birch, popular and Scots pine. The wood is pre-dried in a conventional kiln to a moisture content of 14-18%. Afterwards, the wood is heated to 150°C-180°C within a water/steam environment at super-atmospheric pressure, then dried and cured before heated again to 150°C-190°C in a dry and lower pressure environment.

Other heat treatments are generally based on these three processes with alterations to avoid patent infringement. Heat-treated lumber is typically a dollar more per board foot than a non-treated counterpart of the same species. The lack of chemical treatments and rich deep colors make it appealing to many health and fashion-conscious home owners and a lucrative market for lumber manufacturers eager to promote themselves as “green” industries.

Peter Wendt is a freelance article writer residing in the Austin, TX area. A couple of his friends recently moved into new houses and he was intrigued by all the different wood designs that he had seen. He was very interested in learning more about how the lumber was treated in order to produce certain designs. Peter went to uslumberbrokers.com and learned everything he needed to know.

Custom software may be required for an organization when off-the-shelf software cannot be readily adapted to meet their needs. Since this custom software must meet specific needs, it is essential that these needs be described thoroughly and accurately. It is also essential to provide flexibility in the custom software so it can be easily revised to meet changing needs.

Specifying the requirements

It can be extremely difficult for an organization to describe the overall objectives and detailed requirements for their custom designed software. They probably want the software to be compatible with their existing operational procedures. However, they may not be able to describe these procedures in sufficient detail. For example, no one party in a typical organization of any size knows all the details of their existing procedures. There is a further complication in deciding how the new software will merge with or replace existing procedures.

The software developer should interview various people in the organization’s management and operational departments to help achieve a useful and workable set of requirements.

Selecting the software contractor

One of the best ways to decide whether to use a particular contractor is to interview some of their recent customers that had comparable software needs. If any of these customers was not satisfied with their results, the software contractor in question may not be suitable.

The management and contact people of the organization must feel comfortable in discussing their needs with the proposed software contractor. The contact people of the software contractor must be able to understand typical needs of their customers. If these two groups of people cannot communicate with each other, there is little chance for a successful software project.

The software development contract

Typical provisions for a software development contract:
* The formal requirements of the custom software
* The various services to be provided by the developer
* Any required mileposts and their deadlines
* Payments for attaining a milepost
* Penalties for failing to meet a deadline
* How to submit changes in the software requirements
* Payments for any changes during software development
* Final payment upon acceptance of the custom software
* Payments for any changes after software development
* How to handle disputes between the two parties

Changing the requirements

Experience has shown that formal software requirements invariably are incomplete, or perhaps even incorrect. Therefore, it must be assumed that these requirements may be changed during and subsequent to the software development.

Debugging the software

It often happens that the completed custom software does not operate properly under certain conditions. Hopefully, most of these problems will be discovered by the software contractor during software testing. However, some additional problems may not be discovered until the software is actually being used in day-to-day operations.

Training operators for the software

The people of the organization who will use the custom software must be properly trained. This training may be done by people within the organization, by the software contractor, or by a third party.

Using and revising the software

During the initial use of the custom software, the users should be on the lookout for any possible problems. These problems should be thoroughly documented when they occur. The organization may want to request a change to the software. They may want to implement some kind of workaround to solve the problem. They may want to change their operational procedures to avoid the problem.

A heat pump is an essential part of heating and cooling a home, although not every home has a heat pump. If you have one or are considering getting one and want to know exactly how a heat pump works, you have come to the right place. A heat pump essentially takes heat from the ground and air outside of your home and pumps it into the home during the winter in order to heat the interior of your house. During the summer, it does the opposite in order to cool the house. There are multiple advantages of using a heat pump instead of separate heating and cooling systems. The first- and most obvious- is the fact that you don’t have to pay for two separate systems.

All of the many different types of heat pumps work through heat transfer. Instead of burning fuel to create heat, they simply transfer heat from one area to another. Naturally, the heat in an area of highly concentrated heat will move to an area without a large presence of heat to try and even things out. Think of this as filling a bathtub- the water will always move to fill up the spaces that aren’t already covered by water. A heat pump reverses this process by using a small amount of energy to transfer heat in a low temperature area through the walls of your home and into a higher temperature area so that you are always comfortable.

Air-source heat pumps feature refrigeration coils that cool the heat when it is being drawn in through a fan, and then another fan blows that cooled down air through your home, lowering the overall temperature instead of raising it. Ground-source heat pumps transfer the temperature of the ground or an underground body of water into your home. Absorption heat pumps work on a larger scale and work by absorbing ammonia into water and then boiling that ammonia out, which therefore creates a source of heat to then flow comfortable through your home.

As previously mentioned, there are a variety of advantages associated with a heat pump. Aside from allowing you to control the heating and cooling of your home through one source, heat pumps also save you on the cost of your utilities. Since heat pumps don’t require nearly as much energy as an air conditioner or heater, they vastly reduce the price of your electric bill every month, which means they also are better for the environment. With that being said, heat pumps are not always as effective as air conditioners or heaters, especially when you live in a place with consistently low outdoor temperatures.

All in all, though, heat pumps are a great source of alternative energy that you should definitely consider if you live in a milder climate and are looking to save money on your electric bill while simultaneously helping out the environment. While they do have their drawbacks, now that you know a bit more about heat pumps work, you can make a more informed decision on whether or not you should buy one.
