Transference of Debt

Creditors lend money to individuals who promise to repay the debt within the time period and terms of the contract. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, many people are unable to repay creditors. When individuals can’t pay the debt many different things can happen. The debt is typically transferred to different agencies and is eventually written off.

Unpaid debts affect creditors and debtors. When you can no longer make payments you may consider filing for bankruptcy. You need a qualified legal representative to fight for you during this time to make sure you get out of debt and on with your life.

Creditors and Collectors

If you have fallen behind on your bill payments and debts and have ignored many billing attempts, the company will eventually transfer your debt to another department of their company. This branch of the company will continue working to contact you before eventually transferring the debt to a collection agency.

At this point, the credit card or other company you were in debt to has assumed your debt and written the amount off as a loss. You no longer owe this company any money; however, you now owe the collection agency. These individuals will then proceed with intrusive actions such as repeated attempts to contact you by phone or mail.

If you have reached the point of a collection agency continually calling or harassing you at home or work, you need to take appropriate action. Contact a bankruptcy lawyer to learn more about how bankruptcy can protect you from being harassed by debt collectors.
