Angora Rabbits

According to the 2007 U.S. Pet Ownership and Demographic Sourcebook, there are over 6 million pet rabbits in the United States, making them the seventh most popular pet. One popular breed of rabbit is the Angora rabbit and they are historically known as one of the earliest breeds of rabbits in the world. Angora rabbits are mostly known for their thick, long, and soft wool that can be sheared to make clothing.

Angora rabbits are often laughed at or thought of as a humorous pet because their fur can grow to surprising lengths and thicknesses, making them resemble a cotton ball. If you decide to get an Angora rabbit, talk with your local vet clinic to make sure it is able and willing to see this breed of rabbit.

Caring for Your Angora Rabbit

Like any pet, Angora rabbits need special care and attention to live a happy life. To care for your rabbit, follow the following tips:

  • Provide it with a cage that is three times his or her size.
  • You should keep the cage clean. Clean it at least every two to three days.
  • Male Angora rabbits are known to fight each other so don’t keep two in the same space.
  • To remove any loose hair, be sure to groom them daily.

One of the most important parts of taking care of an Angora rabbit is to make sure it eats plenty of fiber to get rid of the fur that can build up in their stomachs. If not, the rabbit could die.
