Well Water Softeners for Clear, Better Tasting Water

Well water often contains undesirable minerals that affect the taste of water, as well as causing scale to build up in plumbing systems and lessening the effectiveness of typical soaps and detergents. A well water softener can be installed so that water is cleansed of unwanted minerals before it ever enters the house. This prevents the minerals from causing any scale buildup in any part of the home plumbing system, and the softener provides water that is clear, healthy and pleasant tasting.

In order to keep the mineral wastes from entering the plumbing system, a well water softener is typically mounted above the well pump, and it relies on natural sodium ions to rid the water of calcium, iron and magnesium ions that are typically found in hard well water. While a well water softener filter cartridge does have to be recharged or replaced after repeated use, the cost of the well water softener system is offset by the elimination of scale buildup that can damage pipes and necessitate expensive plumbing repairs.

While salt based water softener cartridge based systems or pellet salt systems are the usual standard for well water softeners, newer systems have been introduced that rely on newer filtration materials to remove mineral ions from well water. Sodium free pellets are also becoming available from various water softener suppliers, and alternatives to traditional sodium based well water softeners are becoming more and more popular as consumers are concerned about the health and environmental impact of salt and brine. In fact, many users of salt based well water softeners also install a reverse osmosis water filter system to provide drinking water that does not contain additional sodium. While this system does entail additional expenses, it is still much less expensive than buying bottled water on a regular basis.

A dripping springs water softener provides clear and healthy water that is tastier and easier to use for cleaning than untreated hard water. While the use of sodium based well water softeners does raise some health and environmental concerns, new technologies are available which rely on methods other than sodium ion exchange to rid well water of excess minerals that can clog pipes and affect the taste of water. Even when a sodium ion exchange water softener system is used, a Bee Caves reverse osmosis water filter can be added to remove any added sodium from drinking water.
