The Three Most Upsetting Types of Plumbing Emergencies
A plumbing emergency can take a perfectly good day and turn it into a nightmare. People never know how much they rely on their plumbing until a problem arises. Often times, the problem simply cannot wait and needs to be addressed immediately. Some plumbing emergencies are even more serious and upsetting than others.
Frozen Pipes
Cold weather causes pipes to freeze and if the situation is not dealt with quickly, the pipes may break. A broken pipe causes massive leaking issues which will only increase the cost incurred. If a problem like this occurs, a person can use a hair dryer on the frozen pipes which will begin the thawing process. Additionally, special weather resistant pipes are available for installation which drastically lowers the possibility of frozen pipes.
Clogged Drains
Clogged drains happen anywhere, anytime. Sinks, showers, bathtubs, and other devices that utilize water, can be working one minute and then suddenly become obstructed. This is truly upsetting as it makes a clogged drain useless until cleared. Additionally, putrid smells may accompany the clog creating an even more upsetting experience. In order to rectify this particular emergency, it is best to call a plumber if the obstruction cannot be cleared up with a plunger. Further damage to the drains and pipes may occur if a person uses professional tools that they are not familiar with.
Leaks
Leaking pipes are another upsetting plumbing emergency. They occur when the joints in a pipe are loose, or perhaps when the pipe has corroded to the point that it is no longer functional. Leaks can occur in all sorts of appliances such as refrigerators, dishwashers, toilets, and washing machines. When this problem arises, it can cause damage to floors, walls, and ceilings, depending on how extensive the leak is. A person dealing with this issue should turn off the main water valve and call a plumber in order to have the leak repaired.
