This year the Pro Bowl will be taking center stage even less than usual due to the announcement falling on the same day as the first Tuesday game since 1946. Let us give thanks for the opportunity to repost the infamously good picture of Lance Briggs at the Pro Bowl and bask in the waning glow of these selections in this live updated open thread until the actually relevant football starts in about an hour.
The tree is turning yellow, a few more notches have been added to the belt, and we all care about the Pro Bowl picks for a few moments before remembering that half the players decline the invitation for various reasons and if your team is as good as you wish they were they will be playing in a more important game down in Texas instead.
Congrats to St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson who was the only member of his team to make the 2011 NFL Pro Bowl. Jackson’s been battling all season, stacked boxes, holes that barely emit light for him to run through…there’s almost a certain amount of tragedy to it.
Speaking of tragedy, the rest of the Rams got jobbed on the Bowl Bowl. Royally jobbed on the whole thing.
No Donnie Jones; that honor went to Mat McBriar of the Cowboys, one of five players from the 5-10 Dallas Cowboys to make the team. No James Laurinaitis, Chris Long or James Hall.
Ah to hell with it. I’ll admit, I never bother watching the Pro Bowl anyway. I’d honestly rather watch week 17 of a 1-14 Rams game than the Pro Bowl. Not much for All-Star games in general.
