Diving off South Mission Beach
A rich landscape of the unknown rests underneath the blue waves that wash ashore on any coast. No place better exemplifies this than South Mission Beach in California. Divers, especially amateur ones, almost never have access to marvels like shipwrecks. This is just one of the many attractions that exists near our South Mission Beach townhomes.
Most shipwreck sites lie outside of what is considered the recreational diving limit. This is not the case off the coast of South Mission Beach. Just half a mile from the coast, shipwrecks form an artificial reef, creating a paradise for divers, snorkelers, and underwater photographers.
Wreck Alley
As Wreck Alley has been designed for divers of all skill levels, safety is not a concern. These shipwrecks have been placed here, and the San Diego Oceans Foundation keeps the site buoyed so divers can descend and ascend without the dangers typical of shipwreck sites.
The main attractions are the HMCS Yukon, the Ruby E., and the El Rey. The Yukon is chief among them. Measuring 366 feet, this Canadian Destroyer lies in just 105 feet of water. Unique to shipwrecks, this intentional reef is the sort of thing even snorkelers and amateur underwater photographers are able to enjoy.
